While this is technically a GMRS radio, it can be much more. I purchased this to use in my work vehicle since it's inexpensive and I'd be less sad should it be stolen.

This is a GMRS radio in name only. Under the hood, this little thing is a 25 watt dual band radio. All you need to do is unlock it, and it's super simple to do.
Power off the radio and hold down the V/M button on the front of the radio while you power it back on. This will bring you to a menu where you can select the operating mode of the radio. Choose the mode (136-174) (400-490), power cycle the radio, and you have a full dual band radio for under $100.
